Aflac Named One of the “100 Best Places
to Work” for the Ninth Consecutive Year.
Insurer has appeared among FORTUNE’s best
companies to work for since 1999.
COLUMBUS, Ga. – January 9, 2007 – Aflac
has once again been cited as a “100 Best Companies
to Work For” in FORTUNE magazine’s tenth
annual listing. The company has appeared on the revered
list for nine consecutive years and was ranked at
number 73. The magazine highlighted yearly bonuses,
on-site childcare, and employee appreciation celebrations
as reasons for Aflac’s inclusion. Aflac is also
well-known for employee participation in its philanthropic
efforts surrounding pediatric cancer research and
treatment.
“We are extremely grateful to our workforce
for helping place Aflac on this list of esteemed companies
for the ninth year in a row,” said Dan Amos,
Aflac chairman and CEO. “The pride and camaraderie
shared among Aflac employees created through a corporate
culture that is committed to community volunteerism
and providing quality customer service are among the
many reasons Aflac is a great place to work. This
commitment not only makes Aflac an employer of choice,
but ultimately translates into maximizing shareholder
value.”
The corporation’s employees frequently volunteer
at the Aflac Cancer Center at Children’s Healthcare
of Atlanta which was established in 1995 with a $3
million pledge from company executives. Last year,
Aflac reached over $30 million dollars in charitable
giving to the center with help from its employees
and sales force members. The company also provides
paid time off for employees to participate in some
community volunteer events.
To complete the listing, FORTUNE evaluated over 400
companies in two different areas: policies and culture
and employee opinions. Employees were randomly selected
to complete information at each of the chosen companies.
The magazine then evaluated a questionnaire developed
by the Great Place to Work Institute in San Francisco
to further determine the actual ranking. Criteria
such as:
- Credibility (communication to employees)
- Fairness (compensation and diversity)
- Respect (opportunities and benefits)
- Pride (philanthropy and celebrations)
The complete list appears in the January 22 issue
of FORTUNE, available on newsstands January 15 and
at www.fortune.com on January 8.
